Edouard Petibon, a native of Nantes, serving onboard the battleship Bretagne. He was killed in action when his ship was hit by British shells and exploded during the attack on Mers-el-Kébir in 1940, aged 21. His remains were exhumed and returned to France in 1954. Few things found on his remains were return to his family. They were a purse containing several francs and a leather belt. His brother François also served in the French Navy. He was stationed at the port of Toulon at that time.
